"I just want to help people."

When he was just a boy, Jim Wagenaar, Director R&D at Floww International, already came under the spell of radiation. Later in his life this led to a relentless effort to help people who suffer from potentially radiation related complaints. And to the development of Floww® Health Technology, which now has thousands of satisfied users on four different continents.

Jim was born in Den Bosch in 1950, as the middle child of a Catholic family with five children. He quickly found out that the way he saw the world was different from most other people. Jim Wagenaar: "I'm not sure how I should say it, but I saw things and heard things, but whenever I mentioned this I was only looked at strangely. For example, in a yellow flower I would see all the colours of the rainbow instead of just yellow. However, I learned quickly not to mention this; I did not want to be an outsider."

Like all the boys in the Wagenaar family, Jim had to go to the technical school (LTS), even though he lacked motivation. "My interests and abilities were on another, higher level. It was only when I came to deal with radiation that everything fell into place. And later on this technical training even proved to come in quite handy."

The encounter that would determine his future occurred when he was sixteen years old. "I was at a friend’s house and there was an old farmer with a divining rod, who was measuring the house and land. My curiosity was aroused and I wanted to know what he was doing. He asked me if I wanted to try it myself, which of course I wanted to, because I found it fascinating. And that’s what it was. Magical! You walk around with that thing in your hands and then, without doing anything yourself, it suddenly starts to move. From that moment on, I immersed myself in the study of radiation. At that time there were little or no training institutes in The Netherlands, so I did a building biology training in Germany, followed by a biophysical training. I now understood that radiation could affect health. That farmer had not been a diviner for nothing: he knew that the earth's magnetic field could affect his crops. And once you understand that principle, the step to human health is not so great."

Jim did everything necessary to officially establish himself as a therapist. Jim: "During my training, I learned that radiation also plays a role in non-radiation related complaints. Even with people who appear not to be sensitive to radiation, it affects the auto-immune system, making their healing process more difficult. In other words: if I did not first treat people for radiation, all my other efforts would be useless. Nothing would then seem to help. So from then on I resolutely told people that if they would not first allow treatment for radiation, I could not help them."

Show jumping

Jim’s practice grew rapidly. By word-of-mouth he was increasingly consulted for health problems which were hard to explain. And not only people came to him for help; among his "patients" were animals too. He was consulted by Olympic jumper Jan Tops. After two transmission masts had been placed on his property, his horses had fallen back in concentration and endurance. Soon, the internationally acclaimed jumper Julian Kraaij came to see him with a similar problem too. Jim: "The beauty of working with animals is that there is no question of a placebo effect. Animals have no idea what you are doing to them, there's no 'mind' in between. So when they benefit from a treatment, that really says something. This said, I do think that the placebo effect is an important supporting factor for people. People really heal themselves; I just give them the tools."

Kung Fu

While Jim was initially looking for ways to fight radiation, over time he came to understand that you could use radiation in a positive way. And this marked the beginning of Floww® Health Technology. "When the first mobile phones arrived on the market, it became clear to me that wireless technology would become increasingly important and that this process could not be reversed. Fighting radiation was therefore pointless, I concluded. In my youth I had practised Kung Fu for a while. There I had learned how to use the strength of an opponent. It was this same principle that I used to develop Floww. I deliberately began to search for a method by which I could transform radiation so that it could be made to work for, instead of against, us."

And so Jim began experimenting with frequencies, coils and capacitors. It was the start of a long process of tinkering and testing, until he had finally developed the ideal prototype. "With this prototype," Jim says, "I formed a test group; a group of individuals with a high sensitivity to radiation. And without an exception all of them almost immediately felt the effects of the device. Marc (Schechtl, the CEO of Floww International), was a member of that test group too. And he said to me, "Jim, this discovery will conquer the world." I answered 'Fine', but, honestly, that wasn’t on my mind at all. I just want to help people, and I had a practice full of people who experienced health complaints related to radiation. These people were the ones I was doing it for. But in the meantime, Floww is indeed being introduced all over the world, it is now used by many thousands of people who I've never seen, and my business card says R&D Director. Quite frankly, this still stuns me sometimes. For I could never have dreamed that it would become this big."
