Since January 23, parents in Taiwan risk a fine of £1000 when they allow their child of under two years to play with electronic gadgets such as an iPad or a mobile phone. This prohibition has been laid down by law. The law also sets limits to the time young people under 18 years are allowed behind a screen. The screen time for both iPad, mobile phone and television is now limited to a 'reasonable period'. How long this is exactly has not been defined: the idea is that children and young people are withheld from constantly using electronic devices. Amongst other things, the law has been designed to counteract internet addiction.
